Relationships

No one sees the world quite like you because all of us are uniquely complex beings.

No one sees the world quite like you because all of us are uniquely complex beings. It’s a wonder we can coexist at all. Aristotle once said that “The most important relationship we can have is the one we have with ourselves.” It’s as if we are all in these movies that are 100 percent subjective. Where we are the star of our movie and everyone else are just actors who play out a supporting role. Our movie is like a dream where we peer through an intuitive lens that is a direct reflection of our belief system. When we come to this realization, it is quite the epiphany.

As William Shakespeare famously wrote, “This above all, to thine own self be true.” The other less famous part of his statement ties the idea of relationships together with the outside world. “And it must follow, as night follows day, thou canst not then be false to any man.” Basically, if you are true to yourself and operating within your personal integrity, then you naturally show up forthright to the world at large. This discipline is at the heart of sustainable relationships where trust is paramount.

I talk about how our actions must align with our words a lot because trust comes down to the integrity of our relationships. People need to be able to have confidence in how your words and actions line up. If you want to have unbreakable relationships, then you must show up in a way that others can depend on. That your words mean something. Don’t say you’re going to do something, no matter how small or inconsequential it may seem, and then not do it. Trust me, it is noticed and registered. As Stephen Covey once said, “Successful relationships come down to deposits and withdrawals.” Make a habit of erring on the side of being amply deposited in your relationships. Remember, the amply and equally deposited relationship, is the emboldened relationship.
